Bay To Breakers 2008 - Post Race Wrap-Up

With nary a bare butt, fog, or blister in sight, Woo-hoo! Olga, the Traveling Bra and friends cross the Bay To Breakers Finish Line!we crossed the Bay To Breakers finish line feeling mighty fine...Olga, the Traveling Bra supports her friends!and posed for our official Post Race Portrait looking not half-bad either!
Then, it was back over the Golden Gate Bridge, north to Petaluma...
...and into the hot tub...ahhhhhhh!The next morning, we treated ourselves to a little pampering in the Raindance Spa at The Lodge at Sonoma. Here my blog-mistress and I are preparing for a much kneaded massage! It was blissful!
But the steam room was too damn H-O-T!
OMG!!!...I'm drooooooping!!!
This is more like it!
The private courtyard was so peaceful,
I just hung out in the sun by the pool and relaxed...
...then took a little nap in the shade...
...and by the time we left The Spa, I was so invigorated and perky,
I felt like a brand new bra!
Rounding out the day, we stopped at Mission Sonoma so
my blog-mistress could expose me to a little California history:

Mission Sonoma (San Francisco Solano) was the northernmost
and final mission in a chain of 21 California missions built along the King's Highway, El Camino Real, that runs close to California Highway 101...Mission Sonoma was founded on July 4, 1823 and it was the only Mission founded after Mexico gained independence from Spain...and the only one founded without the Catholic church's prior approval.

"Oh how boring interesting..." I said,
"...but come on now, girls...let's blow this taco stand!
We've got a date with The Mayor for dinner back in Petaluma!"

San Francisco, California/Bay To Breakers ~ Part II

Only in San Francisco will you find such interesting assortment of people during the morning commute!
2008 Bay To BreakersSo keep your eyes on the road...and just keep moving gals! For some strange reason, we always seemed to be stuck behind this peace-lovin' dude...who we dubbed "Orange Guy."
The spectators lining the route of the Bay To Breakers were as just as wild and cRaZy as the participants!...resulting in frequent, yet very entertaining,
traffic jams.
Here's proof that I really DO support boobs of all sizes, shapes, colors and genders. This guy was thrilled to pose with me in his Hooters shirt!
(I'm not so sure about his buddy though...)
There were lots of different bands playing music along the route ~
Southern Rock...
BlueGrass...
R-O-C-K
(for those traveling to the beat of a different drum....)
Jewish Surf Punk
But this stopped me cold in my tracks!
As we were passing through the Panhandle, I spotted the
SAVE THE BOOBS ladies... Olga, the Traveling Bra supports SAVE THE BOOBS Lady at the 2008 Bay To Breakersand just HAD to pull over for a closer inspection!
Here I am getting pinned by one of the friendly Boob Ladies!
Now I proudly wear this Pink Ribbon pin in support breast cancer research,
and as a nice reminder of some really great mammaries...ooops!...
I mean, memories!

But the best part of the whole day

was just supporting my girlfriends

as they LAUGHED their way into
what very well may prove to be the best years of their lives!
As we approached the finish line, we spotted these beautiful butterflies,
which symbolize transition, freedom, and new beginnings - how fitting!
And we all vowed to do this again next year!
The End!
(or...is it???)

PS: I am happy to report we did not get any blisters!

PSS: It's my pal Drowsey Monkey's Birthday TODAY!

San Francisco, California/Bay To Breakers BRAekers

Welcome to San Francisco!
Where my blog-mistress, two of her best girlfriends, and 65,000+ other people recently participated in the 97th Annual Bay To Breakers 12K race. The course starts at sea level (the Bay) at the Embarcadero, then rises approximately 215 feet at the top of Hayes Street...then gradually flows alongside the Panhandle, through Golden Gate Park, and ends at Ocean Beach (the Breakers.)

Started in 1912 as a way to lift the city's spirits after the disastrous 1906 San Francisco earthquake, it is the longest consecutively running footrace in the world (other races' courses and lengths have changed over time.)
Of course, the fog has been there even longer.
But once we crossed over the Golden Gate Bridge,
it was nothing but blue sky ALL THE WAY!

Crazy Nekkid People, Fog, Blisters. (Click the photo to enlarge)
Our lovely hotel was conveniently located right on the route for the race!

(Just kidding...but check out
this link or this one to read more about this very COOL sculptural mural/old hotel on 6th and Howard Streets which has furniture fastened to the outside of the building! And for even more "San Francisco hotel inspiration", check out Mark Ellinger's blog, Up From the Deep: The Hotel Project.)
All rearing to go!
So, my blog-mistress strapped me on and we jumped right in behind...oooops!
these guys forgot their PANTS!

Crazy Nekkid People, Fog, Blisters.
ACK! The crazy nekkid people were fricken everywhere!
Why?!? Check out the Bare To Breakers website for, um, "answers."
Of course, there were plenty of Boobs and Bush running around too.
But I'm not even sure he was IN the race.Look out! It's The Salmon!
Every year these guys start at the finish line and run upstream!
Well hello Betty!
I ran into Betty, my long lost Asian cousin!
Perky little thing, isn't she?
Mile 2 - that was easy!
Next we climb the infamous Hayes Street hill...
Oh.
WoW.
Butt, can we hurry up and pass these guys?
Puh-leeeeezzz!
Half-way up that blasted hill, these fun-loving Martian gals offered me a nice cold beer from their kegger which was so cleverly disguised as a spaceship, that not even the cop in the background seemed to notice! (Maybe he was too busy looking at crazy nekkid people?!)Puff-puff...finally...puff-puff...TAH-DAH!!!
We survived Hayes Street Hill!
Thankfully, my blog-mistress took me off and gave me a breather before
we headed downhill to continue the race!

Stay tuned for THAT!....
